UNREAL ENGINE: Ortho by Nature

An Unreal Engine Learning Project, done in a few weeks over December 2020 to January 2021. The original idea was to make three or four interior scenes only, learning new software and techniques, but the project ended up expanding to become a whole little film. I enjoy doing the whole edit process- including music and sound, and it helps add feeling to an otherwise dry animation.

Design

To save time, I chose to use an existing design, and after looking around for references came across Apollo architects based in Japan. I really liked their Ortho project and their style and it also came with lots of reference material. I modelled up the house myself but used downloadable props and furniture where possible.

Results

Upskilling into Unreal Engine was the main learning goal. The real-time nature of rendering (in most cases) was transformative for my productivity and speed at which I was able to get through iterations to improve.

Some stills from the animation.

Corona Render

The three images below are separate renders I did within 3ds max with Corona Render, before beginning the Unreal Engine animation project.
